38mm Weatherproof Padlock – Ø6.1mm Shackle, Sealed Keyway, Shed, Cabinet & Meter Box Lock

The 38mm Weatherproof Padlock is the small covered-body size, and what it offers is weather resistance rather than muscle. A rubber waterproof ring seals the keyway, and behind that seal sits an all-copper lock core running five brass pins — the same pin count as a standard house door cylinder, not the three- or four-pin wafer mechanism you get in a cheap hardware-shop padlock.

That combination is the point of the lock. The pins give it something to resist a rake with; the seal is why it will still turn in three years instead of rusting solid over one wet winter. The moulded cover also stops the lock marking whatever it hangs off.

Match the lock to the job: a Ø6.1mm shackle is light duty. This is the right lock for a shed, a cabinet, a locker, a tool box, a meter box or a light gate latch. For a yard gate, compound, container or trailer, step up to the 50mm or 75mm in this range, which run a Ø8mm and Ø11.8mm shackle respectively.
