50mm Wave Shell Weatherproof Padlock – Sculpted Case, Ø8mm Shackle, Front Gate & Shutter Lock

The 50mm Weatherproof Wave Padlock is the mid-size in the wave-shell range and the pick of it for most jobs. The contoured shell is a styling choice rather than a security one — it is simply the better-looking lock, and the one to fit on a front gate, a shopfront shutter, a display cabinet or anywhere the padlock is seen rather than hidden round the back of a shed.

Underneath the styling it is a proper outdoor lock. A rubber waterproof ring seals the keyway, and behind that seal sits an all-copper lock core running five brass pins — the same pin count as a standard house door cylinder, not the three- or four-pin wafer mechanism you get in a cheap hardware-shop padlock. The pins give it something to resist a rake with; the seal is why it keeps turning after a wet winter instead of seizing up.

The Ø8mm A3 steel shackle gives 27mm of clearance, which takes most gate hasps, a garage latch or a light chain, and the moulded case keeps the lock from marking a powder-coated gate. Three steel keys are supplied. For a yard gate, compound, container or trailer, the 75mm steps up to a Ø11.8mm shackle and a 6-pin cylinder.
