Description

The 18 × 600 × 2000mm Sydney Rose Gum Grandis panel is a large-format, solid hardwood panel crafted from Eucalyptus grandis lamellas, edge-glued with a Class A moisture-resistant adhesive for lasting structural integrity. Warm rose-pink to salmon-buff tones, natural grain movement and genuine hardwood character — a feature-grade panel where colour variation, gum vein and occasional knots are part of the look. No two panels are the same, and that’s the point.

It’s a big, benchtop-sized sheet of real Australian hardwood that’s still far lighter and easier to handle and work than stone or a solid slab — which is why it’s a favourite for caravan, RV and tiny-home benchtops, joinery and renovations, alongside kitchens, furniture and fit-outs. Kiln dried for dimensional stability, sanded and ready to finish.

Installation & Care Guide

Storage & Acclimatisation: Store flat, away from heat sources and damp. Before installation, lay flat in the room and allow a minimum 48 hours to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Before Installation: Treat all surfaces — top, underside, edges and ends — with oil, wax or lacquer before fitting. Enclosed surfaces and cut ends become inaccessible once installed, so pre-treat everything thoroughly. Timber responds to heat and humidity; proper preparation is essential.

Cutting: Panel saw — face side up. Jigsaw — face side down. Re-treat all cut edges with oil, wax or lacquer immediately after cutting.

Expansion Gaps: Leave a 5mm expansion gap between the panel and all fixed surfaces (walls, stone, steel). Fill with flexible silicone sealant — do not use rigid adhesives.

Fitting: Secure firmly across the full length to prevent warping. Where cabinetry doesn’t support the panel, fix angle brackets to the wall at 200mm intervals. Pre-drill fixing points — screws must penetrate a minimum 15mm into the panel.

Fixing to Masonry: Confirm masonry is fully dry. Use a damp-proof membrane where moisture penetration through the wall is possible.

Joining Panels: Use biscuit joints and timber bolts together to maintain alignment and resist movement. Apply oil generously to all mating edges and undersides before joining.

Hobs, Sinks & Stone/Steel Cutouts: Maintain a 5mm expansion gap at all inserts. Use high-flexibility silicone at all interfaces. Cooktop installations require a minimum 40mm clearance — confirm suitability with your appliance manufacturer.

Under-Bench Appliances: Fit reflective foil and a moisture barrier on the underside above dishwashers or washing machines. Allow a minimum 25mm ventilation gap above the appliance and 15mm at sink/tap cutouts.

Inset Sinks: Seal all expansion gaps with silicone before fitting. Prevent water ingress at the perimeter — prolonged moisture will cause damage if not fully sealed.

Ongoing Care: Avoid standing water on the surface in the first weeks. If oil finished, apply a second coat after one week. Use a trivet for hot cookware and a cutting board for food prep. Clean with a warm damp cloth — avoid harsh chemicals or abrasives.

Repair & Restoration: Lightly sand stains or scratches and reapply your chosen finish. The panel can be sanded back and refinished multiple times.

Warranty & Consumer Guarantees

Backed by a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Sold as natural, unfinished hardwood — colour variation, gum vein and character knots are features of the feature grade, not defects, and aren’t covered. As durability depends on correct finishing, installation and care, please prepare and maintain the panel as directed in the guide above. This warranty is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which include guarantees that cannot be excluded.
