TradeBase Buying Guide

Choose the right security door lock in 60 seconds

Six questions, one lock. Hinged or sliding, with or without cylinder, 4-pin or 5-pin commercial security, six COLORBOND®-matched colours. Tiered pricing on every listing — buy more, save more.

Replacing a security screen door lock should be a fifteen-minute job, but it never feels that way the first time. The hinged-versus-sliding distinction is obvious. The cylinder configuration isn’t — do you need a complete kit, or just the body, or do you reuse your existing cylinder so the same key still works? And which security level: standard wafer, 4-pin residential, or 5-pin commercial? This guide walks you through every decision in the right order so you end up with one product. If you already know what you need, jump straight to our full security door lock range.

💰 Tiered pricing on every listing. Whether it’s a single lock, a 4-pack of cylinders, or a 10-pack — the more you order, the lower the per-unit cost. Multi-pack cylinders ship keyed alike. Trade and strata get even better set rates — email sales@tradebaseaustralia.com.au.

The 60-second decision

  1. Hinged or sliding door? The lock body is completely different.
  2. Complete kit or just the body? With cylinder + 3 keys, without cylinder, or snib-only.
  3. Security level? Double-wafer standard, 4-pin residential, or 5-pin commercial higher-security.
  4. Hand (hinged only)? Left or right, determined from outside the door.
  5. Colour? White, black, brown, silver, Primrose® or Paperbark®.
  6. How many? Single, twin or 5/10-pack cylinders — all multi-pack security door cylinders keyed alike.

🔑 All your security door locks on one key. When you order multiple TradeBase security door lock cylinders — for the front door, back door, side gate or garage screen — every cylinder ships keyed alike to a single key. The 4-pin and 5-pin C4 cylinder bulk packs (twin, 5-pack, 10-pack) all run on the same key. Note: TradeBase window winders, window locks and patio bolts use their own separate keying systems — they aren’t cross-keyed with the security door cylinder range.

3. Security level — cylinder choice

Cylinders are the security-determining part of the lock. The body is the same; the cylinder determines pick-resistance, key copy difficulty, and rating. Every cylinder listing has tiered pricing — single, twin-pack, 5-pack and 10-pack — per-unit price drops dramatically with bulk packs.

Cylinder bulk packs — tiered pricing, all keyed alike: twin-pack, 5-pack and 10-pack. The 10-pack is the cheapest way to re-key a whole house — one key opens every door.

4. Hinged door — left hand or right hand?

Sliding door locks are not handed. Hinged locks are. Stand outside the door looking at it. Hinges on the left = left-hand door. Hinges on the right = right-hand door. Replacing an existing lock? Look at the old one before ordering — the handle and key barrel sit on the opposite side of the body from the bolt.

5. Match the colour to your door frame

Security screen door locks are visible hardware — matching the body colour to the door frame keeps the install looking factory-fresh. TradeBase carries six COLORBOND®-matched options across the hinged range:

Compliance — AS 5039 / 5040 / 5041

Security screen doors fitted to Australian residential properties are governed by three Australian Standards. AS 5039 covers the security screen door itself, AS 5040 covers installation, and AS 5041 covers the test methods. Standard wafer cylinders typically don’t meet AS 5039 dynamic-impact requirements, so for genuinely compliant security screen doors specify a 4-pin C4 or 5-pin commercial cylinder paired with a lock guard. If the door needs to be insurance-rated, check that all three components — lock body, cylinder, and guard — are stated as compliant on the original supplier paperwork.

Installation

Replacing a security screen door lock takes about 15–20 minutes per door with a Phillips-head screwdriver and a 5 mm Allen key. Two screws hold the lock body to the inside of the door, the cylinder unscrews from the outside via a single screw on the lock face. If your existing lock has been jammed or forced, also inspect the strike plate — bend it back into shape or replace it before fitting the new lock. Spring rollers swap out by lifting the door off the track and pressing the old roller out of the carriage — a 5-minute fix.

Still not sure?

Take a photo of the existing lock from outside the door and email it to sales@tradebaseaustralia.com.au with the door colour and approximate measurements. We’ll match you to the correct TradeBase replacement in one reply. Or browse the full security door lock range.
