Commercial and shopfront door hardware is chosen by the door, not the brand: measure the backset of the lock you are replacing, check whether the door is hinged or sliding, and note the cylinder shape. A 23 mm backset takes a narrow stile lock, a 60 mm backset takes a wide stile lock, a swinging bolt means a swing bolt lock, and a pear-shaped cylinder means Euro profile. This guide walks through each family in the TradeBase range, plus concealed overhead door closers, flush bolts and fast-fix hinges.

Narrow stile shopfront locks

A narrow stile lock is a mortice lock with a short backset, made to fit inside the slim aluminium stile of a shopfront or commercial door. The NL23 body has a 23 mm backset, takes an oval cylinder, and pairs with the NL narrow external plates, internal plates, levers and escutcheons. Measure the backset from the face of the faceplate to the centre of the cylinder hole before you order.

Buy the NL23 lock body on its own to replace a failed body, or a complete lock and lever set in the function you need. The sets that need keys come with oval cylinders and cams fitted.

What the -1 to -5 set functions mean

The number after the lock model tells you what sits on each side of the door. The same numbering applies to the narrow stile NL23 sets and the wide stile WL60 sets.

Wide stile shopfront locks

A wide stile lock is a mortice lock with a 60 mm backset, made for commercial doors with a wider stile. The WL60 is a latch, the WB60 a deadbolt and the WH60 a hook bolt for sliding doors. All three take an oval cylinder and pair with the WL wide plates, levers and escutcheons.

Accessible toilets and change rooms: the WL60-3D set has a large accessible (disability) snib on the inside. It is handed, and the hand is read from outside the door — check which side the hinges are on from outside before choosing left hinge or right hinge. The matching handed internal plates are sold separately.

Swing bolt locks

A swing bolt lock throws a hooked or straight bolt that swings out of the lock body rather than sliding, and it is common on commercial aluminium doors. Choose by throw: the SB22 has a 22 mm short throw, the SB37 a 37 mm long throw, and the SB29 a 29 mm hook throw that engages a spring-loaded strike box.

The swing bolt lock sets include escutcheons but no cylinders, so you choose what goes on each side: add a 6-pin C4 oval cylinder with rabbit ear cam on each side that needs a key, or fit the gear-driven escape lever on the inside so the door can always be opened from inside. The supplier states the escape lever conforms to AS 1428.1 (access and mobility). A replacement spring-loaded striker box for the SB29 is sold separately.

Cylinders and cams

Oval and Euro cylinders are not interchangeable. An oval cylinder has an oval body and drives the lock through a cam fixed on its back — it is the standard for Australian narrow and wide stile commercial locks. A Euro cylinder has a pear-shaped profile, passes right through the lock body and is held by one long screw.

C4 is the keyway profile and the pin count is the number of pin stacks; a 6-pin cylinder has more key combinations than a 5-pin one. The cam must match the lock — replacement Z cams and W cams are sold separately.

Euro profile locks and lever sets

A Euro mortice lock is measured by three numbers: faceplate length, backset and pitch. The EC30 in this range has a 240 mm faceplate, a 30 mm backset and an 85 mm pitch between the lever spindle and the cylinder. Euro locks do not include a cylinder, so you add a key-and-key or key-and-thumbturn Euro cylinder in the length that suits your door.

To measure a Euro cylinder, measure it end to end, then from each end to the centre of the fixing screw hole — that tells you how far it sits out on each side of the door. Lengths are nominal: the 70 mm barrel sits 2.0 mm proud at each end. Lever sets and escutcheons come in satin chrome and black, with or without a cylinder hole. See the Euro profile range.

Ryobi™ 30 series concealed overhead door closers

A concealed overhead door closer sits hidden inside the head of the door frame and connects to the door through a sliding arm and channel, which is why it is common on aluminium shopfront doors. Choose a Ryobi™ 30 series closer by three things: door weight, opening angle and whether the door should hold open.

The model number tells you the band: 30-2x suits doors up to 70 kg, 30-3x up to 110 kg and 30-4x up to 170 kg, and the last digit sets the opening angle and hold-open option.

A concealed closer works with a floor pivot at the bottom of the door, an arm channel set into the top rail and a side loading arm that links the two, plus a fixing pack for the arm. Each part is sold separately, so a single worn part can be replaced without buying a new closer. Flush bolts and fast-fix hinges

A flush bolt secures the inactive leaf of a pair of doors: it sits flush in the edge of the door and throws a rod up into the head or down into the floor, so the active leaf has something solid to close and lock against. The Ryobi™ flush bolt is 266 mm with a metal rod and plastic tip, in silver or black.

A fast-fix hinge has one leaf that folds inside the other, so it needs no mortice in the door or frame — it screws straight onto the surface. The 104 double fast-fix hinge is 130 mm, aluminium with stainless steel pin and screws, in black, white and clear anodised. Measure your old hinge along the knuckle and compare the screw holes before ordering.
