Fly screen mesh rolls: which mesh do you need?

Fly screen mesh is sold by type, width and roll length. Pick the type first, then a width a little wider than your screen frame so you have enough to grip while you roll the spline in.

• Fibreglass is the standard mesh for residential windows and doors. It's 0.28 mm thick and alkaline-free, and comes in 50 m rolls from 610 to 2140 mm wide.
• Aluminium is more durable than fibreglass and rated BAL29. A super heavy-duty 0.46 mm version is available for large openings and high-traffic doors.
• 316 marine-grade stainless steel is for coastal homes and bushfire-prone builds, rated BAL40 to AS 3959.
• Pet-resistant mesh is a 0.80 mm reinforced polymer that flexes under dog and cat claws rather than tearing.

What is the strongest fly screen mesh?
For tear resistance, 316 stainless steel is the strongest, followed by heavy-duty aluminium. For pets, pet-resistant mesh is the better choice, because it flexes instead of puncturing.

Which mesh is pet proof?
Pet-resistant mesh is designed for homes with dogs and cats. Standard fibreglass is easily torn by claws.

Which fly screen mesh is bushfire rated?
